Posted by Natali on Jun 30th 2014

Summer memories are always filled with trips to the beach, fun with friends, and most importantly, celebrating the Fourth of July! Who doesn’t love fireworks and barbecue? Nothing says America more than donning your favorite red, white, and blue outfit. With only three colors, style options are surprisingly endless. Whether you’re going to be patriotically celebrating at a casual hangout or a sophisticated soiree, the Vintage Fashionistas have you covered for a fashionable Fourth of July!

Fun Fact: Did you know that the Fourth of July was originally celebrated with a lot of greenery instead of the usual trio of red, white, and blue? Soon after the Declaration of Independence was signed and the Revolutionary War was in full swing, these colors weren’t widely available. Greenery was a more suitable option for decorating and celebrating a new country. As red, white, and blue paper became more accessible and the flag gained importance, the traditional trio that we know and love became an established part of this American holiday. Patriotism is always in style, so here are some outfit options to inspire your Fourth of July look:

Casual Celebration

If you’re attending a low key event this Fourth of July, look for fabrics and cuts that will keep you cool in the heat of the summer. We love this romantic navy ruffle top from Ralph Lauren, especially paired with a white skirt or pants. Complement the outfit with summery accessories, such as gold detailing in these Michael Kors sandals and 1960’s Natural Woven Basket Purse. To top it all off, don’t forget the red element. A fun, chunky necklace, such as this multi strand choker, will bring the outfit together with just the right amount of flair.

Formal Fourth of July Fun

For a more formal affair, we recommend a fun print with a sophisticated cut. This silk Emilio Pucci dress is a great option because it can be dressed up or down with the right accessories. Its lightweight and easy to wear, making it perfect for a summer party. Pair this dress with wedges, like this Rachel Roy pair, for a perfect summer vibe. Wedges give you the height of heels, but are more comfortable and are easier to walk in for long periods of time. To give the outfit a bit of an edge, pair it with this 1980s red Charles Jourdan clutch. Lastly, dangly earrings complete this Fourth of July look.
