Fashion Fact Friday – Trench Coat Edition
Posted by Sylver Penney on May 31st 2013
A trench coat is a water proof rain jacket usually made out of leather, heavy duty cotton gabardine drill or poplin. The jacket usually goes down to the knees or mid-calf. It was originally meant for the military (in the trenches), and this is seen heavily in the styles of the trench coat.
The jacket traditionally is double-breasted with ten front buttons and front pockets. The invention of the trench coat is claimed by two, Burberry and Aquascutum. These jackets were an optional item to be bought by private officers and Class 1 officers to show class and distinction.
These days, Burberry sells women’s trench coats for $2,000.00! Back In Style.com has a very similar Burberry jacket for only $250! If you aren’t interested in Burberry, we have plenty of other types of trench coats! Take a look at all of our trench coats here!
