Fit Clinic Part 2: Straight Figure
Posted by Natali on Jun 18th 2014
If your problem is a straight figure, you should look for pieces that create the illusion of curves, even if you don’t have any! Follow these guidelines for your most flattering clothing options:
To flatter those with a straight figure, look for dresses with a more defined waistline to create a curvy silhouette. Chic peplum dresses help define waistlines fashionably. If you’re not a fan of the peplum style, pick dresses with trumpet shapes or strapless necklines as alternatives. Other dress options include shifts with darts at the bust and the popular wrap dress. These dress styles emphasize your waist to create an hourglass figure.
Pick full or pleated skirt styles. High-waisted pencil skirts are especially flattering, drawing attention to the smallest part of your waist. For a more bohemian look, pick midis or maxi skirts. Tulip skirts also work well with this body type.
Good news: almost any type of pant is flattering for women with a straight figure! Pant options for a svelte look range from skinny jeans, cigarette pants, to the classic straight-leg pant. Bootcuts and full-leg trousers are also flattering for this body type. Look for jeans that hug your body to create a curvy figure. Tucking in your top will also enhance your shape.
Pick tops and jackets that are fitted and create a defined shape. Halters and peplums help emphasize your figure. Look for tops with neckline embellishments and v-necks to draw attention to your best assets.
What to avoid if you have a straight figure: Anything that lacks a defined shape. Stay away from sack dresses and overly baggy clothing. Also avoid vertical stripes if you’re trying to create a curvier silhouette.
