Fun Fashion Fact Friday: Haute Hats
Posted by Natali on Nov 7th 2014
Our British friends can teach us a thing or two about style. For instance, hats are a chic way to make a fashion statement. But where did this tradition come from?
Queen Elizabeth I started this trend that has continued in England ever since. In 1571, she sparked the British tradition of wearing hats to most formal occasions. She created a rule that anyone over the age of 7 must wear a hat on Sundays during her reign. Those who didn’t follow the law were fined harshly. This law is long gone, but the British still do love their hats. Many events have an unofficial hat dress code, like horse races, outdoor parties, and weddings.
