We can thank the ancient Egyptians for the origin of perfume! Though they applied it slightly differently, the ancient Egyptians started this trend that is still going strong today. In ancient Egypt, perfume was only for the wealthiest women. They would place scented grease cones on their heads. During the course of the day, the grease cone would melt, distributing an oil fragrance all over.

The perfume industry has come a long way since the days of the ancient Egyptians! The modern era of perfume began in 1921. This was the year that Chanel launched Chanel No. 5. Arguably one of the most popular fragrances, Chanel No. 5 is an exotic floral blend. Unlike most perfumes, Chanel No.5 has never been changed since its creation in 1921. Its estimated that a bottle of this perfume is sold every 55 seconds. Thankfully, we can buy and apply this great scent easily, unlike the ancient Egyptian forerunners of perfume!
